The world needs more dreamers. Are you a dreamer? I honor you. This is what Fred Rogers said, “It's our insides that make us who we are, that allow us to dream and wonder and feel for others. That's what's essential. That's what will always make the biggest difference in our world.”
It is “our insides” that remain constant in an ever changing outside world. We live in a world that places high value on the outside world, which is material and temporary. Nothing in the material world is permanent. It all disappears eventually. It is an illusion.
The inside remains. So what is this inside that Fred Rogers talks about? It is the ancient wisdom of the little child in us. These little children hold the key. They tell us what we forgot as adults.
I recently found this photo of me around the age of six or seven. Little Cam had a dream of being a cowboy. He planted the seed, and then waited patiently, while Big Cam went on his walkabout, trying everything he could to avoid the dream.
Eventually Big Cam heard Little Cam, remembering the dream. Today, I am not a cowboy but I am a horseman. I found this gift late in life. Little Cam knew all along. The “inside” remained constant. The dream did not die. Sometimes dreams take time, but this is not a requirement. We can live our dreams today, if we choose.
If you are a dreamer (hint: we all carry dreams), take time to remember the inside. If you are a parent with a child, let them know that dreams are the spice of life. Our children, and our adults masked as children, carry the constant inside us. The world will be the world: confusing and dreamless.
As the outside world makes less and less sense, the dreamers, us, have the solution.
Dream Big! This is dedicated to my friend Heath who followed his dreams. May he travel safely on his new journey, release his dream, and awaken in the truth. Rest in peace, my friend.
I love this Cam!!! You were SO Adorable!!!
