Do you ever think you know when you don’t know and you get in the middle of a situation that baffles you? This happened to me again. For some reason, I am slow at learning to recognize these whirlwind situations. Without going into details, I recently heard two conflicting messages. I had to choose one version, at least I thought, in order to move forward with my life.
If you are like me, stress is the enemy of sound decision-making. Stress is like driving a Flintstones car on the highway. You think you can keep up with the other cars by driving a car with wheels made of rock and no windshield. Stress alters your perception.
Stress is like sailing in a race and following the leaders. You are late for the start so you assume the leaders know where they are going. So you decide to follow them. Again, an error in perception.
If you did not know, the Flintstones is a cartoon TV show. They did not have cars in prehistoric times. A sailing race is an agreement to follow a set of rules established by a few people that then reward you for how well you follow the prescribed set of rules.
Park the car that has no engine. It is easier to walk.
Let the herd sail their race. The ocean is wide and vast. Change your course. The ocean beckons you to follow the wind, feel the waves, and sail a race that has no time, a race with no start and no finish.
In summary, we make all mistakes. Most of the mistakes are rooted in stress. This leads to a skewed perception of the world, which leads to poor decisions, which leads to having to make a choice with faulty information.
If you are stressed, and want to take a break from the rat race, I am now offering therapeutic sailing for families. You can learn whatever you want to learn. The sea is your oyster.
